City Council, AISD & Potter County Commissioners Court Joint Work Session

With the Amarillo ISD enrollment declining,  the Amarillo City Council, and the Potter County Commissioners Court came together for a joint work session to discuss the issue of declining enrollment, on Monday.

Since 2015, student enrollment in Amarillo ISD has declined by 12 %.

The City Council and County Commissioners discussed the issue of consolidation of schools in the district

The school board came up with the idea in October that any elementary campus approaching a census of 300 students will be placed on a watch list, and considered for consolidation. The discussion also revolved around growth trajectory, and developing the North side of town.

The issue of economic development was also broached, with an optimistic eye in attracting business to the Northside, with emphasis on small businesses and restaurants.

No solutions came out of the meeting, but all involved say they’re committed to collaborating on the issue.
