Binge Drinking Brings Dangerous Risks For College Students
College is officially back in action, so students and parents need to understand the dangers that can arise from binge drinking.
The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism recently reported 18 to 22-year-old college students have higher binge-drinking rates than peers that aren’t in college.
Binge drinking is defined as five or more alcoholic drinks within two hours for men, and four or more alcoholic drinks within a two-hour timeframe for women.
Heavy drinking can lead to a bevy of health issues such as damage to the liver and other organs, injuries, incidents of violence, car crashes, and drunk driving arrests, not to mention any potential academic impacts it might have.
Experts recommend early intervention to make sure the problem doesn’t grow, as well as learning the facts about risks and potential consequences.
