Amarillo Department Restructuring

A major restructuring for four department directors and their transition to managing director roles is in the works 

The Amarillo Police Department, Amarillo Fire Department, Office of Emergency Management, and Emergency Communications Center are all due for the change.

The restructure gives the new managing directors a leadership role for multiple departments.

Newly appointed managing director of public safety, Martin Birkenfeld says the restructuring will make sure many of the allied agencies in the town are all working off the same page.

The City of Amarillo says it’s committed to providing a more collaborative approach among departments, building a resilient foundation for the challenges our community is facing.
