Transformation Park Funding

More money is being made available to Amarillo’s Transformation Park Project.

The park will be used to build shelters for the city’s homeless. The project is a joint venture between churches, the city, and businesses.

Construction costs have driven up the price, and they are a little more expensive than first thought, at one point one million dollars short.

The awarded $300 thousand comes from ARPA funding, and will also set aside $800 thousand from the working budget.

The additional funding allows Transformation Park to begin construction on phase one in February.

Phase two of the project will include over 40 cabins, which the non-profit is responsible for purchasing, along with all of the furniture that goes inside.

Phase three is also in the works but that will be later on, with more cabins.

City officials are hoping the new park will help with public safety
