Stratford County Man Out On Bond

A Stratford man is out on bond after a weekend shooting in his home and leaving the scene.

Police reports say on January 7th at 3:52 A.M. Sherman County 9 11 got a call about a shooting incident.

The callers reported hearing four gunshots and seeing a pickup leaving the scene, and carrying 31-year-old Derick Johnson to the hospital.

When they arrived, officers were told witnesses heard the gunshots and saw a physical confrontation.

Johnson later called 9-11, and told police he was hiding behind his home and was shot.

Officers found Johnson and he was eventually taken to Northwest Texas Hospital.

Stratford Police followed up and then went to the home of 39-year-old Zachary Tyler Nelson.

Nelson was arrested and evidence was taken from his home, and officers later learned that he was trying to conceal and clean evidence before they arrived.

Johnson was shot in his stomach when he opened the door to his home, and the fight between Nelson and Johnson began.

Nelson is out of jail with a 60-thousand-dollar bond and charged with Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon, Burglary of a habitation, Deadly Conduct, and tampering with evidence. Johnson is in stable condition, and the investigation continues
