RING Doorbell Warrants

Many of us in Amarillo have some type of RING doorbell system. But now if law enforcement wants to access your system, they must obtain a warrant to have access to the footage caught on Ring.

 The company owned by Amazon stated that starting in February If law enforcement wants to use footage from your Ring Device, they’ll have to get a warrant to request it.

Up until now if law enforcement wanted to obtain personal footage, they could request it through the sister app “Neighborhood,” sometimes without the owner’s knowledge.

Some venture to say it creates a fear-ridden environment with baseless accusations, while others say it’s a question of privacy.

Under the new law, citizens can still submit tips on “Neighbors” but will no longer have the ability to post footage.

The new changes will not apply to extreme crime cases, in which law enforcement can still request footage if it’s requested directly to the company.
