Proposition 1-November Ballot

Proposition 1 on the November ballot has to do with farming in Texas.

Supporters of the proposition say it will aid farmers and ranchers from municipal regulations when a city grows and annexes their land into its jurisdiction. Arguments for Prop 1 say as the Texas population grows, the demand for food increases, and cities need to be prevented from overregulating agriculture production.

Other arguments for Prop 1 is that it ensures generally accepted practices of farming, timber production, and wildlife management will be maintained and are allowed on properties within the cities and counties.

Arguments against Prop 1 are it limits the power of local governments to protect the health of their communities by setting rules covering farm practices that could impact food and water safety animal waste and pesticide runoff.

Another argument against is it will allow farms – large and small – to operate with less accountability to local communities.
