New City Hall On The Way

A new era is on the horizon for the Amarillo City government.

Tuesday ground was broken for a new city hall that will be cost-effective and allow for top-notch services to residents.

In the shadow of the old hall, the new facility will be in the former Amarillo Hardware building at 500 South Grant and will open a new frontier of function and service.

The old city hall lacked useable space, had connectivity issues and was not fully compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. Forcing those who need it to only access the building from the basement and only one ADA bathroom on the 3rd floor. It will offer a drive-up service for bill payment along with other perks.

Mayor Ginger Nelson talked about the need to invest in the city, keeping in mind the fiscal responsibility and stewardship of the taxpayers’ dollar.

The completion of the project is set for April or May of 2024.
