Human Smuggling In Cactus

Alejandro D. Godinez Arevalo is under arrest for smuggling of a person and evading arrest with a motor vehicle.

On Saturday, March 5, a Moore County Deputy with the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program observed a 2015 Kia passenger car committing a traffic violation and stopped him, as the Deputy approached the car in the city limits of Cactus near Ashton Avenue.

The suspect put the car in drive and left the scene and the chase was on.

The pursuit was on and with Cactus Police and the Texas Department of Public Safety assisting, the chase came to a stop on U.S. 287 and FM 119, approximately 9 miles from the original traffic stop.

There were six people in the car including Arevalo. The six were determined to be smuggled from a safe house inElPasoand were on their way to Kansas City. An investigation found the six people had paid money for the transport.

The smuggled could not be detained and transported back to their respective countries because of the current policy involving immigration.

They were released from the scene with no pending charges.

Charges against Arevalo will be sent to the 69th District Court against him
