Firework Safety

As the fourth of July nears closer we will soon see the opening of firework stands in the Texas Panhandle.

With the much-needed rain across the area, both Potter and Randall counties are currently not under a burn ban.

This means citizens may shoot off fireworks outside the city limits.

To safely enjoy the fun of fireworks here are some important tips.

Be sure to always supervise children with fireworks, especially sparklers.

When lighting a large firework, back away to a safe distance after the fuse ignites and never allow small children to light these types of shots.

Have a fire extinguisher, or a bucket of water on hand, and never shoot fireworks at other people.

Also, be aware of the weather. Save the fireworks for another evening if the wind is blowing over 15 miles per hour.
