Execution Date Set for April 1990 Murder

The execution of  Brent Ray Brewer is scheduled for November 9th.

He’s scheduled for execution of a 66-year-old for the robbery and killing of  66-year-old Robert Doyle Laminack in April 1990.

Laminack was the owner of Amarillo Floor Company on South Western Street. He was approached by Brewer and Krystie Lynn Nystrom outside of his business and asked to give them a ride to the Salvation Army.

While in the car, Brewer stabbed Laminack to death.

The two then took the man’s wallet and then fled to a friend’s apartment.

Brewer was taken to a hospital for treatment of a cut to his hand.

Both he, and Nystrom went to Red Oak, where they were arrested in May of 1990.

Brewer was originally sentenced to death, that ruling was overturned in 2007, reducing his sentence to life in prison, but he was back in court for a retrial in 2009 and a new sentencing.

Brewer was back in court in 2013 to have his sentence reduced claiming he did not get effective assistance from his attorney.

The court turned down that appeal.

Nystrom is serving a life term in prison.
