Deadly Car Crash

A deadly car crash on U.S. 287 happened early Sunday morning.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says at 5:35 a 2007 Kia Spectra driven by 22-year-old William Gray of Hereford, was going the wrong way in the southeast lane, when it hit a 2010 Freightliner tractor-trailer going eastbound on 287.

The Kia ended up in the median and rolled over, while the truck ended up in the northwest lane before rolling over and catching on fire. Potter County J.P. Gary Jackson pronounced Gray dead at the scene.

The driver of the Freightliner was taken to an Amarillo hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

DPS is still investigating.
