City Handles Waste Water Spill

Over one (1) million gallons of raw sewage was spilled northeast of Bishop Hills at the lift station at 7100 Cliffside Road.

The city says the wastewater overflow came from a manhole and was caused by a mechanical failure of a coupler.

A total of 1,026,000 gallons of untreated wastewater was released.

Crews vacuumed up most of the wastewater and added chlorine to the rest and had the cleanup done by 8 p.m. Monday

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCE) was notified and is working with the city to minimize environmental impacts.
