Child Car Safety Seats

The Amarillo District Texas Department of Public Safety is hosting an event on the safety of children’s car seats starting at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, September 27 at 5715 Canyon Drive.

This is part of National Child Passenger Safety Week. TxDOT is going across the state with an interactive digital truck, bringing attention to proper use and installation of child car seats.

The Natonal Highway Traffic Safety Administration says 46 percent of all child car seats are being misused, and in 2021 78 children younger than 8-years-old died in traffic crashes in Texas while 22 of those deaths were unrestrained.

The NHTS also says that children between 8 and 12-years-old in 2021 died in traffic wrecks with 13 unrestrained at the time of the wreck.
