Wednesday, February 7th, Frederick Douglas and an African-American delegation met with President Andrew Johnson at the White House in 1867.
On Thursday, February 8th, Joe Black is celebrated for being the first African-American baseball pitcher to win a World Series Game. Black led the way for other superstars like Willie Mays, Willie Stargell, and Roy Campanella.
Frederick Douglas Patterson served as the first President of Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute for a quarter century.
His most famous cornerstone for African Americans was establishing the United Negro College Fund in 1944.
In recognition of his accomplishments, President Ronald Reagan awarded Patterson the Presidential Medal of Freedom-America’s highest civilian honor.
