Xcel Announces New Scam

Xcel Energy is warning customers about a potential scam where people are looking to complete transactions, including starting new utility service that may find a phone number online that connects them to the scam.

An Xcel release says when customers call the number, they’re asked to pay upfront to complete the transaction and can collect customer information like Social Security and credit card numbers.

They go on to say the scammers then contact Xcel, posing as the customer, using their information to start the new service, making the scam harder to detect

Xcel says if you want to start new electric or gas service, call the company directly at 1-806-895-4999.
