WT’s Brass Quintet Heading Abroad for Unique Opportunity

The West Texas A&M University Brass Quintet will soon have a unique opportunity to expand its horizons.

The ensemble was of just 5 chosen from around the world to participate in the Stockholm Chamber Brass’s seventh Academy for Chamber Music from July 30 to Aug. 7 in Leksand, Sweden.

The group is made up of faculty from the School of Music as well as the College of Fine Arts and Humanities and includes Dr. Russell Teweleit on trumpet, Dr. John G. Shanks on trombone, Dr. Jeremy Lewis on tuba, and more.

Individuals will participate in masterclasses, recitals, and a group concert with other quintet members.

Each quintet also will work with one of five composers taking part in a simultaneous Academy Composers Course, and at the end of the academy each group will debut a new work by one of those composers.
