WTAMU Working On Covid-19 Testing Kits

West Texas A&M has announced that they will have Covid-19 testing kits available soon.

President of WT Dr. Walter Wendler announced that about 100 COVID-19 testing kits will be donated to the Student Medical Services that were made from supplies from veterinary labs.

This was made possible byTexas A&M System Chancellor John Sharp with the unprecedented collaboration within The  Texas A&M University System.

Dr. Bruce Akey, director of the Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory, said he asked for supplies to a few labs and they began overnighting the supplies late last week.

The kits consist of a swab, a vial with transport media to preserve the sample in the vial, and a bag.

The instruments (swab and vial) were cleared by the FDA and the transport media has been described by the FDA as an acceptable alternative, but not specifically approved or cleared by the FDA.

We just want to be perfectly clear.
