West Texas A&M University Police are reporting a scam that is targeting students at the university or using the university to promote scams.

University Police are trying to protect students, by removing their student phone numbers from the on-line directory at wtamu.edu.

The department is offering these tips to keep the students safe from scammers.

Never accept a job that requires you to deposit checks into your account or wire parts of it to other people or accounts.  Legitimately normally don’t pay in advance.

Use caution if the employer refuses to speak  to you on the phone as most jobs require an interview.

Forward suspicious emails to the college’s IT personnel and report to the FBI and or the local police.
