WTAMU Dr. Wins Gets Ready To Go To Washington, D.C.

West Texas A & M University’s Dr. Guillermo Marcillo will be heading to Washington.

The school said the agricultural statistics professor was selected by the U.S. Department of Agriculture for the program, which selects fellows from Hispanic-serving institutions to help raise awareness of the USDA in their communities.

Marcillo has been selected as an E. Kika De La Garza Education, High School, and Science Fellow this month.

The professor will spend a week in Washington, D.C. meeting with USDA leadership on issues of both national and local importance.

He will also spend another week at Mississippi State University, working with scientists at the school’s Genetics and Sustainable Agriculture Research Unit.

Dr. Marcillo has been researching using data and artificial intelligence to analyze sustainable agriculture practices — something WTAMU said the fellowship will help with.
