WT Seeking ‘Epically Awful’ Poetry & Verses
February 23, 2024 2:15PM CST
West Texas A&M University is seeking “epically awful verses” for its annual Bad Poetry Contest.
Professor of Shakespeare, Matthew Harrison, says good poetry is an acquired taste, but bad poetry can appeal to everyone.
The event is open to students as well as the general public. Participants should have two to three original poems.
Past events have included cowboy poetry to off-kilter rants about anything and everything, some rhyming, others not so much. Participants are asked to keep their material in the PG-13 range.
This year’s event will be held March 1 in the Sybil B. Harrington Fine Arts Complex Recital Hall on the campus of WT. Start time is set for 6:30 p.m.
