WT Runner Honored for Historic Performance

After another week of domination on the track, one West Texas A&M athlete is walking away with honors.

Bassem Hemeida was named Lone Star Conference Male Track Athlete of the Week after his record breaking performance at the WT Spring Break Classic.

Hemeida ran a 49.99 in the 400m hurdles, becoming the first Buff to run under 50 seconds and breaking the previous record set 37 years ago.

He now leads the nation with his time in the individual event, and is the 20th fastest time in NCAA Division 2 history.

WT track is back in action through March 26 as the Buffs and Lady Buffs participate in the Texas Relays and Bobcat Invitational.
