WT Companion Animal Program

A new minor degree program is being funded by former West Texas A and M President Emeritus, Dr. Russel Long and his wife, Natalie.

The gift of 2 point 1 million dollars from the former president and his wife is because they saw the need in shelters and wanted to make an effort to address the issue.

The new minor degree will allow students from all majors to gain more knowledge of their pets.

The Long’s researched shelters and believed the issue started with a lack of education.

The need isn’t only in shelters but also in schools with many pre-veterinary majors, having no education with shelter animals.

WTAMU will open its companion animals minor in fall of 2023.
