As severe weather season continues throughout the Texas Panhandle everyone should be aware of what to do during a significant weather event.

Neither Potter nor Randall Counties offer public storm shelters so here are some helpful tips.

Severe thunderstorms are capable of producing damaging winds, lightning, and hail.

During a thunderstorm it is recommended that you remain indoors.

More people are killed each year by lightning than by tornadoes.

Bring in pets and stay away from windows.

In the event of a tornado go to a basement or seek shelter in a small interior ground floor room, such as a bathroom, closet, or hall way.

Stay away from outside walls and doors.

Remember a weather watch means that there is potential for a storm to develop and a warning means that there is severe weather in an area.
