Wendler; WTAMU End ‘Predatory’ Online Gambling Access

West Texas A&M University is no longer allowing what it refers to as “predatory gambling.” Online gambling sites can no longer be accessed using WT resources, including WiFi and WT-owned cell phones, laptops, tablets, desktops, and other internet-connected devices.

The decision was announced by WT President Walter Wendler, which appeared on a guest essay Sept. 22 in the Amarillo Globe News, later shared with the campus via email a day later.

Wendler says such sites can lead influential students to make poor decisions and create bad habits not unlike other addictions. He said there is no proof predatory gambling has had a positive impact on academic performance.

That policy went into immediate effect.
