Rice Athlete’s Death Blamed On Drug Overdose

(Houston, TX) — Officials are reporting that Rice University football player Blain Padgett died of an accidental drug overdose. Padgett was found dead in his apartment on March 2nd. An autopsy found he died of the toxic effects of carfentanil, a powerful veterinary opioid intended only for use on large animals. Padgett, a red-shirt junior from Sour Lake, was a defensive lineman for Rice.
