Pirates End Skid, Top Rangers In 11th

(Arlington, TX) — Bryan Reynolds and Starling Marte homered in the 11th inning as the Pirates rallied to beat the Rangers 6-4 in Arlington to snap an eight-game losing streak. Joey Gallo homered in the 11th and drove in two Texas runs. Asdrúbal Cabrera delivered a two-run single in the fourth for the other Rangers’ runs. José Leclerc could not hold a three-run lead in the ninth for a blown save. Manager Chris Woodward says he may remove him from the closer’s role. The Rangers are 2-and-6 in their last eight games.

Rangers To Start Miller This Afternoon

(Arlington, TX) — The Rangers will start right-hander Shelby Miller this afternoon against the Pirates to close out this two-game series. Pittsburgh will counter with Jameson Taillon. Texas is off tomorrow before welcoming the Blue Jays to Globe Life Park for a weekend series.

Smyly To Throw Simulated Game Today

(Arlington, TX) — Drew Smyly is scheduled to throw a simulated game today. Smyly is on the injured list with arm fatigue. If all goes well, he could be activated Sunday and start against Toronto.

Cole, Astros Blank Twins

(Minneapolis, MN) — Gerrit Cole allowed one hit and struck out 11 over seven innings as the Astros routed the Twins 11-0 in Minneapolis. George Springer, Jake Marisnick and Alex Bregman homered for Houston. Carlos Correa drove in three runs for the Astros, who are 3-and-1 in their last four games.

McHugh Starts Tonight For Astros

(Minneapolis, MN) — Collin McHugh will start tonight for the Astros against the Twins at Target Field in the third contest of this four-game series. Martin Perez , who is 3-and-0, will start for Minnesota. The two teams split the first two games.

Rockets Lose Game Two To Warriors

(Oakland, CA) — The Rockets fell 115-109 to the Warriors in Oakland and have dropped the first two games of the Western Conference semifinals. James Harden scored 29 points in defeat, but left the floor in the first quarter after being hit in both eyes and suffering a cut. He returned midway through the second. Chris Paul scored 18 points for Houston. The best-of-seven series shifts to Houston for Game Three on Saturday.

Stars Face Must Win Tonight

If Dallas loses, it would have to win three straight to advance with the series shifting Friday to St. Louis. The Blues’ two victories have been by one goal.

Derby Favorite Draws 12th Post Position

Omaha Beach is the 4-to-1 morning-line favorite and will break from gate 12. Game Winner is the second choice at 5-to-1, followed by Improbable and Roadster, both of which have 6-to-1 odds.

Former Longhorns Star Charles To Retire As A Chief

(Kansas City, MO) — Jamaal Charles is calling it a career. Multiple reports say Charles will sign a one-day contract and retire as a Chief. Charles spent nine of his 11 years in the NFL with Kansas City, where he is the franchise leader in career rushing yards, single-game rushing yards and both season and career yards per carry. The 32-year-old went to four Pro Bowls and his career 5.4 yards per carry is the best mark among running backs. The Chiefs drafted him in the third round in 2008 out of the University of Texas, where he rushed for 1,619 yards as a junior in 2007. He was also a state champion hurdler at Port Arthur Memorial High and was a Longhorn track standout before opting to concentrate on football.

J.J. Watt Charity Classic On Saturday

(Houston,TX) — The J.J. Watt Charity Classic softball game will be Saturday at Minute Maid Park. There will be a Home Run Derby first and then the game. Some of the Texans participating in the charity game include Deshaun Watson, DeAndre Hopkins and Jadeveon Clowney. Watt did not host the event in 2018 as he recovered from surgery and wanted to focus on Hurricane Harvey relief recovery.
