Wednesday Sports Update – Rangers Fall To Padres

(Arlington, TX) — Jake Diekman blew the lead in the eighth inning as the Rangers lost the Padres 3-2 at Globe Life Park. Diekman suffered his first loss after yielding three runs. That spoiled five scoreless innings from starter Austin Bibens-Dirkx. Rougned Odor and Robinson Chirinos hit solo homers for Texas, which has lost two-of-three after winning seven straight.

(Houston, TX) — Charlie Morton struck out 13 over seven shutout innings as the Astros blasted the Blue Jays 7-0 at Minute Maid Park. Morton moved to 10-and-1 with the victory. Jake Marisnick hit a three-run homer and Alex Bregman belted a two-run shot during a five-run eighth inning for the ‘Stros, who are 5-and-3 on their current nine-game homestand.

Magic Johnson States Goal For Lakers

Mets’ Alderson Taking Leave For Cancer Treatment

(Flushing, NY) — Mets General Manager Sandy Alderson is taking a leave of absence to be treated for cancer again. The 70-year-old says his cancer returned in April and he is undergoing chemotherapy. Alderson was previously diagnosed with the disease back in 2015. He has been the Mets’ full-time general manager since 2010.

Cubs Place Bryant On DL

(Los Angeles, CA) — The Cubs are finally placing third baseman Kris Bryant on the disabled list. It’s the first time he’s been placed on the DL during his four-year career. The decision is retroactive to Saturday. Bryant is dealing with left shoulder inflammation that is believed to have started to bother him about a month ago. Chicago manager Joe Maddon says he doesn’t think the injury is serious and expects him to be activated next Tuesday.
