VA Medical Center Changing Visitation Policy

Starting today, the Amarillo VA Healthcare System is making changes to it’s visitation policies.

The VA care system is asking patients to not bring visitors in with them unless they are a caregiver.

The locations affected are in Amarillo, Lubbock, Childress, Clovis, Dalhart and Lubbock.

Veterans who are having day surgery or an endoscopy procedure will still need an escort to arrive with the patient to give them safe transportation home after the procedure.

Escorts will have to stay in the waiting area until the patient is discharged, the only other exception are Compassionate cases which will be reviewed on a case-by- case basis.

The reason for the changes is due to the high transmission rates of Covid-19 and to protect Veterans and staff from unnecessary transmission of the virus.

Veterans can switch to virtual or telephone appointment can contact their provider team at 806-355-9703 and press option 2.
