UPDATE: Controversial Billboard Has Come Down! What Did You Think About It?

Video on the controversial billboard being taken down. I just happened to drive up with the billboard mostly already down.

Someone purchased a billboard on Interstate 40 six miles east of Vega greeting people driving in from New Mexico: “Liberals Please continue on I-40 until you have left our GREAT STATE OF TEXAS.” The Burkett sign company owns the billboard. While I side with many, many conservative values over liberal ideas; I don’t believe this is a great message to be telling travelers.  Texas prides itself on being a friendly state. Most of the time we bend over backwards to be nice to people from other places. I think this sends the wrong message to potential motel guests, hungry travelers, gasoline buyers,  shoppers, sightseers and others. Amarillo needs the hotel-motel (HOT) tax to help pay for things like the new “Sod Poodle Palace” in downtown. I’m pretty sure businesses in Conway, Groom, Alanreed and Shamrock want people getting off I-40 to come fill-up with gas or eat a meal.  We want to know your opinion.
