Tuesday Sports Update – Rockets Win 9th Straight

(Houston, TX) — The Rockets jumped out to a 27-point halftime lead to beat the Hornets 118-106 in Houston. James Harden paced the Rockets with 28 points and 10 assists. Eric Gordon had 22 points for Houston. Clint Capela contributed 19 points and 15 rebounds, The Rockets won their ninth straight. Houston will host Golden State on Wednesday.

Thunder Top Jazz, Sweep Season Series

(Salt Lake City, UT) — The Thunder completed the season sweep of the Jazz with a 98-89 win in Salt Lake City. Dennis Schroder contributed 24 points off the bench and Russell Westbrook finished with 23 points and 11 rebounds. OKC entered the fourth quarter with a 14-point lead. Westbrook went viral during the game after video surfaced of him threatening to beat up a Jazz fan and his wife. Donovan Mitchell led Utah with 25 points in defeat and Royce O’Neale poured in 17. Utah fell to 37-and-29 and has lost three-of-four.

Doncic Questionable For Mavericks Game Tonight

(Dallas, TX) — The Mavericks will try to snap a five-game losing streak tonight when they host the Spurs. Dallas has lost 10 of its last 11 to drop to 27-and-39 overall. Rookie Luka Doncic suffered a mild knee strain in the Sunday game and is questionable. Dallas goes on the road Thursday playing in Denver.

OKC’s Westbrook Threatens Fan, Wife

(Salt Lake City, UT) — Thunder guard Russell Westbrook is making headlines for his mouth, not his play. A video went viral last night of Westbrook threatening to beat up a Utah Jazz fan and his wife last night in Salt Lake City. Westbrook said after the game that the fan made racial remarks to him. ESPN reports the fans received warnings for their behavior from Jazz officials.

Rangers Split Two

(Surprise, AZ) — Hunter Pence homered and drove in two runs in a Rangers’ split-squad 12-11 loss to the Angels in an afternoon game. Shelby Miller struck out three and allowed one earned run while retiring eight batters for Texas. The Rangers beat the Royals 6-2 in the night game that was called after five innings because of rain. Isiah Kiner-Falefa went 2-for-2 with a double, scored two runs and drove in one in the win. The Rangers will play the Diamondbacks tonight in Scottsdale. Foles Agrees To Deal With Jaguars

(Jacksonville, FL) — Super Bowl 52 MVP Nick Foles is finally getting his payday. Multiple reports say Foles has agreed to a four-year, 88-million-dollar deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars. It can’t become official until tomorrow. Foles spent the last two seasons as the Eagles’ backup quarterback, but started in the playoffs both years due to injuries to starter Carson Wentz.

Spence, Garcia Title Fight Saturday

(Arlington, TX) — World welterweight champion Errol Spence will defend his belt Saturday against Mikey Garcia in a pay-per-view bout at AT&T Stadium. Spence, who is from a Dallas suburb, is 24-and-0 with 21 kayoes. Garcia is 39-and-0 with 30 knockouts, but the 135-pound lightweight champion is moving up two weight classes to challenge the 147-pound Spence.

Conor McGregor Arrest For Destroying Phone

(Miami Beach, FL) — Mixed martial arts star Conor McGregor is under arrest for smashing a fan’s phone. Miami Beach Police say McGregor is charged with felony strong-armed robbery and misdemeanor criminal mischief. The fan allegedly tried to snap a picture of McGregor as the two left a hotel when the fighter slapped the phone out of the fan’s hand and stomped on it.

Kansas City, Mo. (AP) — Kansas State and Texas Tech are the top two seeds for the Big 12 Tournament after sharing the regular-season title. Defending champion Kansas is seeded third, and will try to forget the disappointment of a ho-hum regular season when play begins in Kansas City on Wednesday night.

Cougars Move Back Into Top 10

(Houston, TX) — Houston is back in the top 10. The Cougars coming off an 85-69 road victory Sunday over ranked Cincinnati have moved up two notches in the USA Today Coaches Men’s Top 25 Coaches poll to number-10. Houston captured the AAC championship with a 16-and-2 record and is 29-and-2 overall. The Cougars drew a first-round bye in the conference tournament in Memphis. They will play Friday against the winner of the Thursday game between South Florida and UConn.

College Basketball Roundup

(Undated) — In other area college basketball action, SMU will tangle with Tulsa in the opening round of the AAC tournament Thursday in Memphis. Tenth-seeded North Texas will face Florida International in the opening round tomorrow of the Conference-USA Tournament in Frisco. UT-Arlington is seeded-second in the Sun Belt Conference tournament and has drawn a bye into the semifinals on Saturday in New Orleans. Texas A&M will face Vanderbilt in the SEC Tourney tomorrow in Nashville.

Game Times Announced for Men’s and Women’s South Central Regional Championships

Canyon, Texas – The schedule for this weekend’s men’s and women’s NCAA Division II South Central Regional Championships have been officially announced. The women’s tournament gets underway on Friday, March 15, at 12 p.m. with Angelo State and Westminster followed by the 1/8 matchup between West Texas A&M and Eastern New Mexico at 2:30 p.m. The men’s quarterfinals are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. when the Buffs take on New Mexico Highlands followed by Texas A&M-Commerce and Dallas Baptist at 7:30 p.m. Saturday’s semifinals are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. with the women followed by the men at 7:30 p.m. If WT advances to the finals on Tuesday, March 19, the women would play at 5 p.m. with the men at 7:30 p.m.
