Tuesday Sports Update – Rangers Take Down Angels

(Anaheim, CA) — Joey Gallo drove in three runs as the Rangers beat the Los Angeles Angels 5-2 in Anaheim. Ronald Guzman contributed a two-run homer as Texas snapped a four-game losing streak. Mike Minor allowed one run over six innings to pick up his 12th victory. Jose Leclerc struck out two in the ninth to collect his 10th save. The Rangers will send Adrian Sampson to the mound tonight as the series against the Angels continues in Anaheim. This will be Sampson’s second career start, but his first for Texas. Verlander, Astros Drop Tigers

(Detroit, MI) — Justin Verlander worked seven strong innings as the Astros dropped the Tigers 3-2 in Detroit. Verlander struck out 10 and gave up two runs against his former team. It was his first game in Detroit since being traded to the Astros. The ‘Stros did all their scoring in the third inning. They’re three games ahead of Oakland for the division lead. The Astros clash with the Tigers again tonight in Detroit. Framber Valdez will take the mound for Houston, while the Tigers counter with Jordan Zimmermann. Gerrit Cole will pitch the series finale tomorrow.

Texans Lose OT Henderson, CB Johnson

(Houston, TX) — The Texans will be without starting tackle Seantrel Henderson for the rest of the season. Henderson suffered an ankle injury during Sunday’s loss that will cost him the entire year. The Texans will also be without starting cornerback Kevin Johnson, who suffered a concussion. They’ll visit the Titans on Sunday.

Jets Jolt Lions After Early Pick-Six

(Detroit, MI) — Rookie Sam Darnold overcame a pick-six on his first NFL play to throw two touchdown passes in the Jets’ 48-17 win in Detroit. Isaiah Crowell added 102 yards and two scores on the ground for New York, which scored 31 points unanswered points in the third quarter. Matthew Stafford threw four picks in defeat.

Rams Spoil Gruden’s Return To Raiders

(Oakland, CA) — The Rams outscored the Raiders 23-0 in the second half and rolled to a 33-13 win in Oakland. Jared Goff threw two touchdown passes and Todd Gurley rushed for 108 yards for Los Angeles. Derek Carr was picked off three times for the Raiders, spoiling the return of head coach Jon Gruden to the NFL sidelines.

Packers’ Rodgers Uncertain For Vikings

(Green Bay, WI) — The status of Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers for Sunday’s game against Minnesota is uncertain. Head coach Mike McCarthy says no decision has been made. Rodgers returned from a first-half knee injury to rally the Packers past the Bears on Sunday night. DeShone Kizer would start if Rodgers cannot.

Keselowski Wins Brickyard 400

(Indianapolis, IN) — Brad Keselowski is the winner of Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It’s the second straight win for Keselowski. The race ran yesterday after being postponed on Sunday due to rain. Kyle Busch clinched the regular season championship. The NASCAR playoffs begin this Sunday in Las Vegas.

Bradley Wins BMW Championship

Keegan Bradley won the suspended BMW Championship in a playoff over Justin Rose for his first PGA title in more than six years. Rose and Bradley went to a playoff after bogeying 18 after both birded 16 and 17. Despite falling just short, Rose moves to No. 1 in the rankings for the first time by finishing alone in second.

College Football Roundup

(Undated) — It will be a busy football weekend for area colleges. On Saturday, Number-14 TCU will host fourth-ranked Ohio State in the feature game. In other games, Baylor will host Duke in a battle of unbeatens in Waco, Texas A&M will welcome UL-Monroe to College Station, Number-21 Southern Cal will play at Texas, Houston will be at Texas Tech, SMU will play at Number-22 Michigan and North Texas will be at Arkansas as the Mean Green attempt to go to 3-and-0. The West Texas A&M Buffaloes host Tarleton.
