Rangers Open Regular Season Today Against Astros

(Arlington, TX) — The Rangers open up the regular season this afternoon against the defending champion Houston Astros at Globe Life Park. Cole Hamels will start on the mound for Texas in the opener of the four-game set. The ‘Stros will counter with Justin Verlander. Hamels is followed in the rotation by Doug Fister, Matt Moore, Mike Minor and Martin Perez. Our pregame coverage begins this afternoon at 2 on 710AM and 97.5FM KGNC.

MLB Opening Day Today

(Undated) — It’s Opening Day in Major League Baseball. The defending World Series champion Astros play the Rangers in Arlington, while the National League champion Dodgers begin at home against the Giants. The Yankees debut their new slugging tandem of AL Rookie of the Year Aaron Judge and NL MVP Giancarlo Stanton against the Blue Jays in Toronto. All 30 clubs were scheduled to be in action today, but the Nationals-Reds game has already been postponed due to weather issues in Cincinnati. They’ll try again tomorrow on what was originally an off-day for both teams.

Lakers Top Mavs

(Los Angeles, CA) — The Lakers outscored the Mavericks by 11 in the second half to cruise to a 103-93 win at the STAPLES Center. Los Angeles locked up on defense after allowing Dallas to score 34 points in the first quarter. Brook Lopez led the way with 22 points, while Julius Randle chipped in 20 and 10 rebounds. Brandon Ingram returned from a 12-game absence to score 13 points. The Lakers are 33-and-41. Harrison Barnes had a team-high 17 points in the loss. Dallas has dropped six-of-seven to put them at 23-and-52.

Rockets Host Suns Tomorrow

(Houston, TX) — The Rockets will wrap up their five-game homestand tomorrow night against the Phoenix Suns at the Toyota Center. Houston has won 10 in-a-row after Tuesday’s 118-86 rout of Chicago. The Rockets continue to lead the NBA at 61-and-14. The Suns have lost 13 straight to dip to a league-worst 19-and-57.

Stars Begin Home-And-Home With Wild Tonight

(St. Paul, MN) — The Stars begin a home-and-home series with the Wild tonight in Minnesota. The teams will then rematch on Saturday at American Airlines Center. Dallas snapped its eight-game skid with a 3-2 overtime win over Philadelphia on Tuesday. The Stars have 86 points, five behind both St. Louis and Anaheim for the two wild card spots in the West. The Wild are third in the Central with 94 points.

Houston Open Starts Today

(Humble, TX) — The Houston Open tees off today at the GC of Houston in Humble. Dallas native Jordan Spieth is the highest ranked player in the field. His group tees off at 8 a.m. Defending champion Russell Henley is grouped with Phil Mickelson and Justin Rose. That trio gets started at 1 p.m. Amarillo native Ryan Palmer is scheduled to tee off this morning at 7:20.

Final Four Saturday In San Antonio

(San Antonio, TX) — The Final Four tips off on Saturday at the Alamodome in San Antonio. Loyola-Chicago clashes with Michigan in the first game before Kansas takes on Villanova. The National Championship game is Monday.

NFL Hall Of Famer Mike Singletary To Coach At Dallas High School

(Dallas, TX) — NFL Hall of Fame linebacker Mike Singletary is taking a coaching job at a Dallas high school. Trinity Christian Academy released a statement yesterday saying the former San Francisco 49’ers coach will lead their team in the upcoming season. As a player, the Houston native was a member of the legendary Chicago Bears defenses of the 1980s.

Former Seahawks QB Boykin Arrested On Domestic Violence Charges

(Mansfield, TX) — Former Seahawks practice-squad quarterback and TCU standout Trevone Boykin is under arrest on domestic violence charges. WFAA-TV reports the 24-year-old was arrested Wednesday in Mansfield, Texas and charged with aggravated assault with serious bodily injury. His former girlfriend claims he broke her jaw. Seattle cut Boykin on Tuesday.
