(Midland, TX) – The Midland RockHounds edged past the Amarillo Sod Poodles 2-1 in the rubber game of a three-game series at Security Bank Ballpark on Wednesday night. Right-hander Lake Bachar was brilliant for Amarillo, tossing seven innings and allowing just one unearned run. Bachar struck out nine batters for the second consecutive outing. Bachar lowered his ERA to 3.30 in the outing. The Sod Poodles continue their road trip tonight against the Frisco RoughRiders at Dr. Pepper Ballpark.
Rangers Open Series Tonight With Astros

Carpenter allowed a hit and a walk in a scoreless fourth inning. Maness yielded a hit and an unearned run. Both are on the Nashville Sounds staff.
Tucker Gets Hit In Triple-A All-Star Game
(El Paso, TX) — Astros’ outfield prospect and 2015 first-round draft pick Kyle Tucker doubled in one of his three at-bats in the Pacific Coast League’s 9-3 win over the International League in the Triple-A All-Star Game in El Paso. He is hitting .275 with 24 homers and 64 RBIs in 82 games with Round Rock.
Mavericks Best Croatia In Summer League
(Las Vegas, NV) — The Mavericks defeated Team Croatia 79-71 in the Summer League in Vegas. Shayne Whittington led Dallas with 19 points, connecting on six-of-nine field goal attempts off the bench. Josh Reaves added 15 points. Dallas won despite committing 25 turnovers. The Mavs improved to 3-and-1 and will await seedings for the playoffs to see who they play over the weekend.
Rockets, Jazz Meet Tonight In Summer League
(Las Vegas, NV) — The Rockets will meet the Utah Jazz tonight in Las Vegas Summer League play. The Rockets have shut down seven-footer Isaiah Hartenstein, who suffered an ankle injury in the win over the Kings, from Summer League play. Houston is 1-and-2, while the Jazz are 2-and-1.
Kawhi Signs Three-Year Deal With Clippers
(Los Angeles, CA) — Kawhi Leonard’s free-agent contract with the LA Clippers is shorter than expected. The two sides agreed to a three-year, 103-million-dollar-deal. Leonard can opt out of the contract after two seasons and become a free agent again in 2021, as can fellow new Clipper Paul George.

He was named the Gatorade National Male Athlete of the Year and accepted the award at a banquet in Los Angeles and was on the ESPY’s red carpet. He helped Colleyville Heritage win the Texas 5A high school state championship. He is playing for the Royals’ Surprise club in the rookie Arizona League.
Report: Texans Won’t Have GM For 2019 Season
(Houston, TX) — Several outlets report the Texans will not hire a general manager for the 2019 campaign. They attempted to lure Nick Caserio from the Patriots, who filed a tampering charge. Caserio’s New England contract is up after the 2020 draft, so Houston is apparently going to wait it out to get their man. The Texans fired GM Brian Gaine last month.

Former Astros Pitcher Jim Bouton Dies
(Great Barrington, MA) — Jim Bouton, who wrote “Ball Four” and played two years with the Astros, died at his home in Great Barrington, Massachusetts from a brain disease linked to dementia. He was 80. Bouton pitched 10 years in the majors, including 1969-and-70 with Houston, going 4-and-8 with a 5.02 ERA in 45 games. He was an All-Star selection in 1963, going 21-and-7 with the Yankees.
