Rockets Oust Jazz, Advance In Playoffs

(Houston, TX) — James Harden scored a game-high 26 points as the Rockets defeated the Jazz 100-93 in Houston to advance to the second round of the NBA playoffs. Clint Capela contributed 16 points and 10 rebounds to the win as the Rockets eliminated Utah in five games. Eric Gordon, who had 15 points, also guarded Utah star Donovan Mitchell, who was 4-for-22 from the field and missed all nine of his three-point attempts and finished with 12 points. The Rockets will face the winner of the Warriors and Clippers series in the Western Conference semifinals.

Hurricanes Eliminate Capitals, Second Round Begins Tonight

(Washington, DC) — The Hurricanes are moving on in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Brock McGinn scored in the second overtime as Carolina ousted the defending champion Capitals 4-3 in Game Seven of their first-round series to advance. The second round starts tonight, with the Bruins at home against the Blue Jackets and the Stars visiting the Blues.

Stars Will Open Series On Road Tonight

(Dallas, TX) — The Stars will open the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs tonight in St. Louis. Game Two will be Saturday at the Gateway City before shifting to Dallas on Monday. Dallas advanced with a 2-1 overtime win over Nashville in Game Six on Monday. The Blues beat Winnipeg in a six-game series that concluded with a 3-2 victory on Saturday in St. Louis. The Stars and Blues were the lower seeds in the first round.

A’s Walk Off Rangers

(Oakland, CA) — Nomar Mazara belted two solo homers for Texas, but it was not enough as the A’s won 6-5 on a walk off to sweep the series. Logan Forsythe also homered in defeat. The Rangers went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position. Chris Martin took the loss as Texas dropped to 2-and-7 on the road.

Rangers Continue Trip With Series In Seattle

(Seattle, WA) — The Rangers will open a four-game series with the Mariners tonight in Seattle. Left-hander Taylor Hearn is the Texas probable for the opener and will make his big league debut. Michael Brantley and Josh Reddick blasted two-run homers, while Carlos Correa hit a solo shot. The Astros have won two in a row and are 3-and-3 in their last six.

The Texans’ pressing need is the offensive line to provide better protection for quarterback Deshaun Watson, who was sacked 62 times last season.
