Three Perish In Childress Accident

The Texas Depart of Public Safety released details regarding the Thursday morning crash that left three people dead and one injured near Childress.

The accident occurred around 10:00 a.m. Thursday when a 2016 Mack truck towing a semi-trailer was heading northwest on U.S. 287 in a construction zone.

A 2019 Subaru Ascent was traveling behind the truck with a 2016 Ford Escape traveling behind the Subaru.

According to the DPS press release, traffic in the construction zone was moving slowly when a 2013 Kenworth truck being driven by 47-year-old Vicente Barcenas of Perryton, Texas, failed to control his speed and struck the Ford Escape, setting off a chain reaction.

The Ford Escape, driven by 54-year-old Patrick Scrivener of Troup, Texas, and Subaru Ascent occupied by Bradley Nevil, 68, and Sheri Nevil, 61, of McKinney, Texas, became wedged between the two semis.

Scrivener and the Nevils were pronounced dead at the scene.

Barcenas was transported to Childress Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
