The Temporary Pump At Greenways: How Long? How Much?

As the City continues to deal with flooding, especially around the area’s seven Playa lakes, it was shared earlier in the week that the pump trying to clear the water at Greenways Lake is being leased from United Rentals at a cost of just under $100,000.00.

Assistant City Manager, Floyd Hartman speaking at Wednesday’s Lunch & Learn meeting, says the length of the lease is dependent on how long it takes to clear that lake, noting the general expectation is it could take up to 90 days to bring Greenways Lake back to a lever considered safe for the public.

Normal protocol for capital expenditures like this usually requires a bid process. However, due to the immediate need, Hartman said this pump was secured under an emergency law that allows the city to bypass the bid process. He added United Rental was chosen due to a previous experience, knowing United would have the equipment needed and could have it in place quickly.
