The Activist Athlete Named SI’s 2020 Sportsperson Of The Year

The activist athlete is being named as Sports Illustrated’s 2020 Sportsperson of the Year. The magazine is naming five athletes who they say were champions on and off the field.

They include Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James.

Others being named are U.S. Open tennis champion Naomi Osaka, WNBA champion Breanna Stewart and Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, Mahomes’ teammate on the Chiefs.

SI credits LeBron with getting Black people to vote in last month’s election. Mahomes is being honored for his work on the Black Lives Matter movement and protests by players.
