Texas Panhandle Rattlesnake Awareness

After receiving rain across the Texas Panhandle with warming temperatures residents need to be aware of rattlesnakes.

Being the most common venomous snakes in the area they can pose a danger.

To avoid rattlesnakes it is helpful to understand where one is likely to be.

They can be found in shady areas during the daylight hours, and slithering free during the night time.

Experts say to walk with care when walking through tall grassy areas and around bushes.

To help keep your yard snake free make sure to remove all debris that a snake may seek shade under, and keep the grass trimmed down.

If you encounter one back away from it slowly and call your local animal control.

If bitten by a rattlesnake you should seek immediate medical attention.
