TDJC Lockdown Precautions

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice is cracking down on inmates by locking down prisons to curb rising violence and drug use.

According to a press release, TDJC officials attribute this to an increase in illegal narcotics coming into the prison system. This has directly impacted the safety of staff and inmates.

Texas prisons have had 16 inmate-on-inmate homicides, which are believed to be tied back to illegal drugs.

The TDJC is taking the following measures:

  • Each facility will limit the movement of inmates and their contact with those outside of the prison.
  • Inmates and staff will be searched to find and confiscate contraband.
  • Increased K9 searches and other technology where specialized search teams and narcotic dogs are sent to units.
  • Increased drug testing.

More precautionary measures may be taken when needed.
