SNAP Emergency Benefits Cut

Emergency Snap benefits are ending in February in Texas and New Mexico.

The reduction in benefits comes via Congressional legislation making February the last month eligible households can receive the emergency benefits.

SNAP recipients will receive regular Snap benefits starting in March.

Texas recipients will be getting a notice about the change before the emergency program ends.

The Health and Human Services Commission gave out more than 344.1 million dollars in emergency food benefits for January. That’s according to Texas Governor Greg Abbott.

New Mexico, by population, has the highest percentage of people enrolled in the SNAP program.

According to New Mexico officials, the average household in New Mexico received about $536 in SNAP emergency allotments, and a family of four will lose about 25 percent in SNAP emergency allotments
