Sixth Street Water Tower

The Sixth Street Water Tower in Amarillo will be getting a facelift after all.

The plans to repaint the tower have been in the works for 12 years since it was first introduced to the City of Amarillo.

Since the idea was first presented to the city other organizations like the San Jacinto Neighborhood Association and the Route 66 Association have teamed up to make the water tower a priority.

They needed to raise 18 thousand dollars to move on with the project and they did it to make it a reality in a little less than a year.

Fundraising for the project came from numerous organizations like the Amarillo Convention and Visitors Bureau, numerous local businesses, and internationally.

The water tower project, according to organizers will benefit all businesses along Route 66, and also bring more attention to Amarillo.
