Red Light Cameras On The Way Out

The City of Amarillo will no longer use red light cameras.

The Texas Department of Transportation banned the installation and operation of the red light cameras in June of 2019, but the city was allowed to keep them to finish honoring its existing contract with Verra Mobility.

That contract ends on August 29th, but the equipment will not be.be taken down immediately.

City officials have credited that red light cameras are very effective at cutting down on traffic accidents.

At midnight, August 29th, all of the city’s red light camera systems will be turned off
