Polk Street Set For Curbside Improvements

Sidewalks in downtown Amarillo are slated for updates under the streetscape project.

The focus is Polk Street between the curb and buildings, and the main idea behind the changes is to make downtown walkable for Amarillo residents and visitors.

In what the city calls the “Amenity Zone”, trees, trash cans, and bus benches will be combined with a pedestrian zone.

The whole idea is to bring Polk Street under ADA compliance, where ramps and other amenities are more accessible.

During the construction phase, traffic will not be affected outside of the construction zones.
