Polk Street Streetscape

The Polk Street Streetscape project is almost complete.

The $4.6 million project covers the areas of Polk Street from 2nd Avenue to 10th Avenue.

Beth Duke, executive director of Center City of Amarillo, Inc. says the funding came through a bond election in 2016 when voters approved  this particular project, the money for which could only be used on the Polk Streetscape. Now it is nearing completion.

Polk Street is in the heart of the city’s historic district, some of is sidewalks in disrepair, and could be made American With Disabilities Act accessible.

Improvements being made include bike racks, lighting, benches and more.

Construction currently in progress now at 7th to 8th Avenue, is estimated to be completed by this October.
