Petition Handed Over To Stop City Hall

An Amarillo man who has already filed a lawsuit to halt City Council from using debt to move City Hall, has filed a petition for an election on the question.

Craig Gaultier filed the petition and he says he has over 10-thousand signatures..

Now the signatures must be verified before calling for the election.

The actual lawsuit says that in August council vote to issue 35 million dollars in certificates of obligation violates state law and defeats the spirit of the City Charter.

The suit maintains voters rejected an even larger bond issue to renovate and expand the Amarillo Civic Center and moving City Hall was part of that larger project
