Pantex Amarillo’s Largest Employer
As we’ve known for quite some time, the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce and the Amarillo City Council, acknowledge Pantex as the largest employer in the Texas Panhandle.
Pantex has been a staple employer throughout the region since the federal government reclaimed the sight in 1951, creating thousands of jobs for residents of the Panhandle.
Amarillo Mayor Cole Stanley, says “The quality of the personnel that they can afford to hire and employ out there is probably the biggest impact that we see in our community.
Pantex officials say employment numbers continue to rise due to a 70% increase in workload and they have plans in place to house 300 employees in Amarillo to accommodate extension plans.
Over the last several years they’ve grown from a little over 3,000 employees to now upwards of 4,600 plus.
A 25-year master plan includes employment opportunities and reconstruction of 250 buildings within the Pantex facility
