Panhandle State Hospital Update

State Representative Four Price joined other dignitaries for an important announcement Tuesday morning concerning the Panhandle State Hospital project.

The PSH will become part of the state hospital system of Texas. Since 2017, the system has received 2.5 billion dollars from the Governor and Texas State Legislature.

Price shared a land lease agreement between the Health and Human Services Commission of Texas, and the Texas A&M University System has been reached. Price says this hospital has been needed in the Panhandle for decades. One benefit will be local jails where officers do the best they can for those struggling with mental illness while waiting for a bed to open down state.

The Panhandle State Hospital, to be located here in Amarillo, will have 75 beds and join the Texas State Hospital System, benefitting from all its assets as well.

The hospital is expected to begin admitting patients in the fall of 2027.
