Panhandle Schools Covid Closing

Some Panhandle school districts are closing because of high numbers of Covid 19.

Many of the area school districts are closing because they’re seeing a hig number of students testing positive. School Districts like Wheeler, McLean, and Plemmons-Stinnett-Phillips, closed this week with Bushland closed Friday.

River Road ISD is closed until Tuesday.

School officials say besides Covid-19, they are also considering the number of absences and the acute shortage of substitute teachers available.

Out of the 17 teachers in the Groom system, about a quarter of them are unable to work.

A majority of the schools I have spoken with are using snow days to make up the time lost.

Each school district will deep clean its facilities while students are away and encourage social distancing.

If the schools face more closures, they’ll have to consider taking away school holidays to ensure students are caught up in their studies.
