Optic System For APD Handguns

The Amarillo Police Department has a new optic system to improve shooting accuracy. Police have already begun training with the new sight system.

Officer Jaycin Smothermon says, “In a critical incident if needed, this, in turn, allows the officer to be able to make better judgment; to maybe be more proficient and accurate, and be more efficient at the job, therefore that just makes the community safer.”

Smotherman says the new sight system utilizes a holographic dot which aligns the rear sight and front sight, therefore enabling the officer to keep both eyes open,

Basic fundamental shooting methods must be met such as proper stance, proper grip, and proper trigger control.

Funds for the new sites were provided by both the city and the officers themselves.
